Quinta do Sanguinhal
Quinta do Sanguinhal is very close to Bombarral and only ten
minutes from our bed and breakfast. It is possible to visit and
arrange a wine tasting here. There are around ninety-five hectares
of vines producing the wines and they are spread over three
estates. The vast majority is planted with ''uva tinto'' to make
their red wines and the rest is white grape that is blended to make
the white wines.
The best known wines from here are Cerejeiras and Quinta de San
Fransisco and they are reasonably priced in most supermarkets.
The Quinta do Sanguinhal also makes Aguardente which is a firey
spirit made from the skins of the grapes. The family that owns the
Quinta is well known and respected in Portugal for the fine wines
they produce. It is somewhat unusual to find this quality in a
region where vast quantities of hybrid grapes are grown to make
cheap (but palatable)table wines at the cooperatives.
Wine tasting and tours of the winery can be arranged in
advance.
Quinta dos Loridos
At the same location as the incredible Buddha Eden is the Quinta dos Loridos which produces many fine wines from its large estates. You can buy any of these products form the on site shop and the sparkling wines feature prominently on their shelves..
