The soft sandy beach stretches from Salir Do Porto to Sao Martinho.
Visit Sao Martinho on Portugal's Silver Coast.
Taking a trip to Portugal and having a vacation to stay for a couple of weeks is probably more widely recognised as a holiday in the Algarve, in the south and perhaps warmer all year round. It's always been the most popular tourist destination and to a large extent, only appeals to holiday makers in general.
When you take a short trip away from the Algarve, just a few hours in a northerly direction, it is possible to forget the commercialism so prevalent in the south as you will be presented with the most interesting and natural part of Portugal which we know as the Silver Coast.
The culture and the history are both rich and amazing, the locals welcome people warmly and you get to know the real portugal.
Many Portuguese take their summer holidays on the Silver Coast and quite a few decide to pack their bags and head for Sao Martinho.
Of course, Sao Martinho is not the only beach resort on the Silver Coast, there are several very good resorts. But, the curving clam shell bay that almost shuts out the Atlantic, providing calm waters for swimmimg and having fun, is probably the most famous of the towns on the Silver Coast.
Sao Martinho Do Porto is a much loved resort and along with the perfect beach it also has a long and excellent promenade with shops, cafes and restaurants all along the opposite side of the road. Everything you need is at hand and just a short way from the beach is a new Intermarche for all your groceries.
There is a massive range of accommodation in and around Sao Martinho to help you enjoy your visit even more. Thhere are choices including cheap bed and breakfast and of course villas, apartments and hotels.
There will naturally be a lot of holiday makers in Sao Martinho during July and August, and atothe times at weekends when the weather is good, but if you arrange your holiday for June, September or October then you are virtually guaranteed decent weather and not so much in the way of crowd...of course you might enjoy the hustle bustle of a busy resort, then just book for July and August. It will be more expensive but the atmosphere will be different too.
Enjoy two weeks in Sao Martinho Do Porto, it is central on the Silver Coast.
From the town of Sao Martinho Do Porto, you can travel easily to other great spots on the Silver Coast...notably Obidos, Batalha, Fatima, Lisbon and Cascais, Caldas Da Rainha and Santarem to name just a few.
If you want to have a holiday in Portugal then you really should make the effort to go and visit Obidos in all its glory. Check the official Obidos website, there is a link to it at the bottom of the page in the link. There are many great festivals that happen every year in Obidos and you will get some idea from the website of what is on and when.
Obidos in just 15 minutes away from the Vineyard Retreat by car and is one of the seven
wonders of Portugal, you could also visit Buddha Eden on the same day.
No visit to Portugal would be complete without a day in Obidos.
