Lisbon, the capital city of Portugal.
There are so many places to visit and enjoy.
You will discover the restaurants and museums, the castle and
monasteries, the history and the culture. The river Tejo is a
beautiful natural waterfront that makes the Vasco Da Gama shopping
centre a lovely place to go to. There is a cable car ride along the
promenade, and on a clear day you will enjoy splendid views of the
city.
In the busy Rossio part of the Portuguese capital, there is the Castelo Do Sao Jorge, St Georges Castle, and it offers excellent views from a high position of the city of Lisbon. You can reach this high point by catching the number 28 tram. It is an old style wooden tram that rattles its way along the narrow streets but saves you a steep climb.
The cost of using all the trams, metro and buses is built in to the one day tourist ticket for around 3€. You can order it at the kiosk unless you Portuguese is good enough to comprehend the machines that dispense the tickets. There is usually someone at the desk who can speak a little English.
One of the buses will take you along beside the river largely, to Belem. Belem is worth going to if you have all day even if only to experience the bustle of the shop where they make and sell thousands and thouands of the custard tarts that are known famously as Pasteis Do Belem. They are certainly delicious and you will be amazed at the size of the restaurant that produces them.
Also at Belem, and impossible to miss, is the Jeronimos Monastery which is an intersting building as you will see if you follow the link to Wiki-pedia.
